Government to help overseas
Indians trace their roots

Delhi, Oct 27 (IANS) The ministry of overseas Indian affairs
is planning to launch a project for the people of Indian origin
to trace their roots.
The
ministry has recently signed a memorandum of understanding
with a company, Indiaroots, for tracing roots.
Under
the program, an overseas Indian can submit an application
along with a fee of Rs.20,000. Later the ministry will forward
the application to Indiaroots, along with an advance amount
of Rs.6,000 for tracing the ancestry of the applicants within
a period of three months.
If
the roots were successfully traced, the balance amount will
be released to the company.
In
case the attempt is not successful, a further amount of only
Rs.4,000 will be released to Indiaroots and the government
will refund foreign currency equivalent to Rs.10,000 to the
applicant.
