BJP should introspect on
supporting terror accused: Rahul
Amritsar,
Nov 18 (IANS) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Tuesday
asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to do some introspection
on supporting people accused of masterminding a terrorist
attack.
"It
is very sad that such things are happening. But the people
involved in all this (Malegaon bomb blast) are linked to the
VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad)," Gandhi said.
"The
BJP should take a good look at the kind of people they are
promoting," Gandhi said.
The
BJP and Hindu rightwing organisations have been on the backfoot
ever since the Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested
two Hindu religious leaders and an army officer for suspected
involvement in the Sep 29 bomb blast in Malegaon town of Maharashtra
that claimed six lives.
BJP
president Rajnath Singh and senior leader L.K. Advani have
supported Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and other accused, alleging
their arrests were politically motivated.
Gandhi
said the BJP's accusation of the Congress-led United Progressive
Alliance (UPA) government being soft on terror was unfounded.
"This
(UPA) government has been very tough on terror. I am happy
the way that they have handled terror," Gandhi said.
